Here's ECO's article on the fresh Landing.Jobs Global Tech Talent Trends 2024 Report - Portugal edition. Ana Marcela did a great job analysing and summarising its insights on this article piece (strongly suggest reading it). The IT Work market is in a low condition, showing a lack of confidence on both Talent and Company sides. It seems no one wants to give a step out of the last crisis cycle and resume investment in creating new products (or evolving existing) to foster competitive advantages. IT Professionals have lost some of it's bargaining power to companies, and most companies are still mostly in hiring freeze mode (even if they say otherwise.) It's a strange situation, but I'm hopeful this situation is also a correction of some wrongdoings and a preparation for a major jump in this market. My bet be would be that 2024H1 will still be pretty most a 'still' year, but on 2024H2 stuff is going to start heating up, and the market machine will prepare for a new strong growth cycle. This is just my hypothesis, but would love to know your perspectives on this. I leave you some highlights to sharpen your appetite for the report (which you can download here https://lnkd.in/d9Zmb55q) ➡️ IT Salaries didn't grow from 2023 to 2024, signalling a clear market slowdown (average gross annual salary is at 46.5K€) ➡️ The percentage of IT Professionals in Portugal working remotely to a company abroad reduced from 22.6% to 16% ➡️ Hybrid work lost ground to both full-office work and full-remote work ➡️ The Gender Salary grap grew to 36% (males earning more than females), a terrible blow to diversity efforts ➡️ The percentage of IT Professionals in Portugal relocated from other countries grew to 15.7% If you thinks this is relevant content for your communities, please share. I was honoured to participate in the fantastic panel discussion about the future, moderated by Luis António Santos, at the 25th-anniversary celebration of the IS department at the University of Minho. Carlos Zorrinho (a former member of the European Parliament) and I share similar thoughts that the future will be defined by the convergence of AI in supporting the planet's sustainability—something I coined as Sustainability 5.0.   Paulo Silva, partner of NTT Data Portugal, confirmed the incredible need for Energy to run AI. Electricity costs about 2-3 times as much in Europe as in the US, while gas costs up to 5 times more! We must also shift to renewables and research/use Hydrogen as one complementary source. The risk of chasing the increasing demand is not to stop fossil-based production but to continue the emissions and put the planet at risk! That is why bringing in innovative change-makers from tech society to revolutionize and accelerate the green transition is not only urgent but also a gigantic step forward in economic development! Rui Mendes, the director of the IS department and a Smart City expert, is aware of the University's importance in training and researching innovation for future sustainability! Above all, it was a pleasure returning to my University!
